Finding Treasure

"A good book, whether a novel or not, is one that leaves you
farther on than when you took it up. If when you drop it, it drops you down in the same old spot, with no finer outlook, no clearer vision, no stimulated desires for that which is better and higher, it is in no sense a good book." Anna Warner

  1. That would mean I'm reading a bad book right now. Sigh.

    1. You know what? I just looked at this again and would hate the idea that we cannot read a book just for fun. I love fun, shallow, empty books for escape and relaxation. BUT who's to say that even those can't lift you up and give you a smile?
So please don't put your book down, you are FREE to enjoy!

  2. This is a wonderful quote...I'm going to 'borrow' it to evaluate (and maybe toss out more quickly) my reading choices.

  3. Delightful quote, indeed. Helps me understand what is a good, or bad, book. I read only good books. If something doesn't seem promising, I won't read it any further.

    Blessings and Bear hugs.
