Unplugged

House is quiet,
Mac is off,
body stretched out on the couch,
pillow positioned just right.

Time to listen, be still,
turn off the newsfeed
of constant updates
every 3 seconds of other's thoughts.

Lie there.
Head is still searching
for updates,
funny quotes and job listings.

Stop it!
Be quiet!
Soft music helps,
shoulders begin to sag into couch.

I see me, holding a big ball
of tangled string
up to God.
Help!

Can you unravel this mess?
Where do we start?
Do we begin with this piece here?
No?  But how.....

His breath on the tangled sphere,
we watched it melt into nothing.
Just like that, gone, swoosh.
Empty space.

Can it be so easy,
so quiet and uncomplicated?
Trust.
Rest in who He is.

I breath slow, measured,
smile and trust.
Wake up two hours later,
comfy couch, happy heart.

  1. Those moments of rest on the couch had a great result; the image of you holding up a tangled ball of string to God is very appropriate to all of us, and our messy thoughts and situations, at times.

    1. I am continually surprised at how easy God makes things when I let Him. That's the hard part i guess, "letting Him".

  2. What a perfect word picture of something a person could only see in the silence. Thank you so much, Susie.

    1. You are welcome and thank you my friend. My logical brain says that each tangled string needs to be carefully dealt with, but He rarely does it that way.
