Happy Blogoversary to Me!

Nope, not real, but I can dream!

Today is my 2 year Blogoversary! (Cannot imagine why Spellcheck is underlining a perfectly reasonable word!)  The last two years here at RCL have included:

  • 275 Posts
  • 41,354 Page Views
  • 196 Followers or Subscribers
  • 27,142 - Top views from USA
  • 1,657 - Second most views from the Ukraine?...Have NO idea why!
  • Post with most Page Views was titled: "??"  (Why did 2 question marks draw the most people in? Odd)
  • Second Most Page Views was titled: "Living Wholeheartedly" about my Mom.

I could continue with the Blog Statistics, I know where all my readers live (Just states/countries, not a stalker!) how often they come by, what other site led them to RCL and even if they are using Windows or a Mac. There are graphs on age, gender and the time of day that people read or leave comments.

But all of that means little to me and I don't look at the Stats Page very often. I don't try to plant popular buzzwords or optimal search engine words in my posts in order to attract more readers or Followers. I do pay attention to how many readers I have though, I love knowing that the words and thoughts on this blog are hitting home with someone. That they liked what I wrote enough to sign up to read more. That says something.

This blog has introduced me to some extraordinary people whom I now call my friends. I never would have crossed paths with them otherwise. Dawn who lives on the totally opposite coast in Rhode Island is not someone I would have bumped into at Walmart. But we would have laughed awfully hard if we did! Or Pamela in Florida, an empty nestor like me, we live in very different worlds but I feel like we've shared cups of tea (though I would have insisted on coffee) and chatted about our sons in her cozy woodsy home. And Rob-bear because he followed me over from my old blog and has been a sweet fuzzy old cheerleader even though he tries to appear gruff. I love that this weird blog-world introduced me to the friend I've known the longest online,  The Bipolar Diva. We've been through a lot together huh Teri? She loves her gorgeous pink and white Harley and her crazy house full of kids and drama!

Blogging is about the words but it's mostly about the people. That has been my surprise discovery here. I created this place for an avenue to send my writing "out there". The fun benefit is that writers need readers need writers need readers.....fun huh? (I made that up. So very clever.) We write our stuff and read one another and send on encouragement, prayer, corrections, challenges and friendship. Don't let anyone tell you that online relationships are not real!

Earlier today one of the Writers Job Sites that I belong to asked us to send in the best sentence we've written. I searched my files and blogs and ended up sending in this sentence from a blog post written a few weeks ago called Written Words are Living Things .

"Even though we are all being constantly barraged with more of the written word than any other time in history, through the internet and its unending stream of news, persuasions, how-to's and entertainment, I believe there are some words within that barrage that will hit spirit to spirit and affect a life, lift a head and give someone new hope."
My prayer is that my words will be living things that hit spirit to spirit and make a difference. I love words and always have. Hubs teases me about reading anything in front of me, cereal box, junk mail, if there are words I will read them. But the connection that words create, the pictures they can paint and the messages they send are what really excites me. Blogging does all of that, so happy 2nd Blogoversary to me and Recovering Church Lady!!

I am now lifting my wine glass, Dawn, thank you so much for the surprise blog-love you posted on your blog!

  3. Hooray, and we might have run into each other at Walmart...hmmm...Now every time I go into Walmart I will be thinking of you! LOL. I actually had champagne, my dear - in honor of you ( I bought a teeny bottle to share with hubs- except he hardly finished his glass) . But I believe it is just the same with bubbles! On top of that, the dog wagged his tail while my glass was on the coffee table last night and smashed the glass to a million pieces. Typical. FYI This is also what happened to our only champagne flutes. Which came out on only special occasions. Backstory over. Happy Blogoversary and I love all the stuff you shared in this post!

    1. OOO Champagne! Wow, I am special! I'm so sorry about the wagging tail incident though. Guess i should be grateful that Layla's was docked before we got her, though I wish she wasn't.
I enjoyed my glass of white wine last night and I really love the great pic of you toasting me! It is adorable!
Thanks for all the love my friend!

  4. Congrats and Happy Blogoversary! Coming up on my first pretty soon :) Glad to have met you through Dawn. Love your humor and insight. I can truly relate to that cartoon and appreciated the stats rundown too - it always amazes me that people - even people a world away - read and enjoy my thoughts and words. I raise my glass of OJ (it is early morning) to you in acknowledgement of your accomplishment and wish you many more years!

    1. It's kind of weird to me, I see the Feedjit app and it even shows me in real-time who is on and where they live, and I think Brazil? How, why? Love it!
Thanks for your kind words Toni.

  6. Happy Happy Blogoversary to you, my favorite "Recovering Church Lady"! You have inspired, encouraged, excited, and educated me throughout the past year + that I have known you here in Blogland! We have shared life stories, compared notes about ministries, families, and dreams. We've both lost a precious parent in the time we've known each other and have traveled through that time of grief together, even though we are on oppposite sides of the country. I am so thankful for your friendship, even though we have never met in person, we look into each other's eyes and hearts every day here in blogland...and I thank God for this experience! My 2nd blogoversary was back in January, but I was too ignorant to know that I should celebrate...so now I celebrate with you. Great job, Susie! Please keep it up! Your readers need you!!! (and love you!) Congratulations!

    2. Haha! thanks my friend! it has been quite a year hasn't it? I hope your move to the new place is settling into a comfortable routine now and please be careful about those bears ok? I get freaked about mice in my backyard, cannot imagine wondering of a big mama bear is out there!

  7. Thank you for mentioning me! I'm honored. You have inspired me so many times when I feel I've lost my way, thank you for that. Yes, we have been through a lot and I can't believe you're still with me even after all the dirt I spill about my dramatic, chaotic, bipolar life. Thank you for being you and I know that you're there to encourage me should I need it. I appreciate that. Oh, I love Rob-Bear too. He's pretty cool! Happy Anniversary!

  8. Happy Blogversary, Susie, RCL. And thanks for mentioning the ol' Canadian Bear, and blowing my cover. Nobody will think I'm dangerous now. What respect will I get? Well, never mind. The important thing is your second blogversary — and I hope you have a lot more!

And yes, the Diva is an amazing character. As are, I'm sure, so many others you have collected up as friends.

Happy Canada Day from Canada, today, eh?; Happy Independence Day on Wednesday!

  9. Better late than never, right? To celebrate writing and relationships all wrapped into the giant package that is blogging. What could be better? Hoping the next year brings you as much joy as you've brought us.
