I could continue with the Blog Statistics, I know where all my readers live (Just states/countries, not a stalker!) how often they come by, what other site led them to RCL and even if they are using Windows or a Mac. There are graphs on age, gender and the time of day that people read or leave comments.
But all of that means little to me and I don't look at the Stats Page very often. I don't try to plant popular buzzwords or optimal search engine words in my posts in order to attract more readers or Followers. I do pay attention to how many readers I have though, I love knowing that the words and thoughts on this blog are hitting home with someone. That they liked what I wrote enough to sign up to read more. That says something.
This blog has introduced me to some extraordinary people whom I now call my friends. I never would have crossed paths with them otherwise. Dawn who lives on the totally opposite coast in Rhode Island is not someone I would have bumped into at Walmart. But we would have laughed awfully hard if we did! Or Pamela in Florida, an empty nestor like me, we live in very different worlds but I feel like we've shared cups of tea (though I would have insisted on coffee) and chatted about our sons in her cozy woodsy home. And Rob-bear because he followed me over from my old blog and has been a sweet fuzzy old cheerleader even though he tries to appear gruff. I love that this weird blog-world introduced me to the friend I've known the longest online, The Bipolar Diva. We've been through a lot together huh Teri? She loves her gorgeous pink and white Harley and her crazy house full of kids and drama!
Blogging is about the words but it's mostly about the people. That has been my surprise discovery here. I created this place for an avenue to send my writing "out there". The fun benefit is that writers need readers need writers need readers.....fun huh? (I made that up. So very clever.) We write our stuff and read one another and send on encouragement, prayer, corrections, challenges and friendship. Don't let anyone tell you that online relationships are not real!
Earlier today one of the Writers Job Sites that I belong to asked us to send in the best sentence we've written. I searched my files and blogs and ended up sending in this sentence from a blog post written a few weeks ago called Written Words are Living Things .
"Even though we are all being constantly barraged with more of the written word than any other time in history, through the internet and its unending stream of news, persuasions, how-to's and entertainment, I believe there are some words within that barrage that will hit spirit to spirit and affect a life, lift a head and give someone new hope."My prayer is that my words will be living things that hit spirit to spirit and make a difference. I love words and always have. Hubs teases me about reading anything in front of me, cereal box, junk mail, if there are words I will read them. But the connection that words create, the pictures they can paint and the messages they send are what really excites me. Blogging does all of that, so happy 2nd Blogoversary to me and Recovering Church Lady!!
I am now lifting my wine glass, Dawn, thank you so much for the surprise blog-love you posted on your blog!
