Layla's Traumatic Day

Little Layla had a truly traumatic experience today. I thought she would be over it by now. It happened at about 10 this morning and it is now about 8:30pm.

Right now she is still circling the house and looking up at the ceiling at the slightest sound.

I knew something was wrong this morning when she suddenly came running into the house barking her head off. Her no-bark training has been successful so far and this sounded different but we could not figure out what was wrong! I told Curt she seems scared, not mad, as she kept racing around the house barking.

I couldn't see anything wrong in the backyard, no neighbor dogs, bees, mean birds (?) Then I noticed some people on the street with their cameras pointed at the sky and this is what we saw.....

The beautiful balloon was totally quiet as it floated above our house.

Meanwhile Layla found a tight spot under some living room furniture and refused to come out. She was trembly like a tiny chihuahua. Poor baby was freaked out! We held her and she could not relax at all.

All the Layla pics were taken today. She keeps looking up.

Our noisy, cocky, scared-of-nothing dog has dramatically changed personality today and though it is nice to have a puppy who wants to cuddle and stay close all day rather than jump all over you and grab stuff; I want my baby back. (I am also super thankful that she is no longer wearing the static-collar that would have given her a little jolt every time she barked!!)

Tough day for little Layla.

Next Day: The balloons are back again for the 2nd day!! If we are on a new flight path this could get very very sad!
Poor baby

    1. Sadly, the very next day even more huge balloons came and literally surrounded our house! She is still a mess 3 days later. :(

    1. Hi Betty, well she is still hiding, now she is curled up behind Hubs in a big comfy chair. Maybe it is all a trick to get on the furniture?

  4. Lol - hot air balloons affect me the same way! Just kidding, they're quiet until they hit their burners. I wonder if that's what was frightening Layla?

    1. Hey Rob, guess what's going on in the skies today? Nearby fields are being crop-dusted!! Yikes!

  6. Ahhh, makes me wonder what she can hear and see that makes her so fearful. Something about that combination is too much for her sensitive ears and sharp eyes. Maybe a good day to take her for a ride in the car or to a doggy park. Can she do that without creating more stress for you? Hope she calms down soon and relaxes into a happy puppy.

    1. I agree, the sound is odd, but this one was in the quiet stage and I think the fear was seeing such a huge thing right over our yard with no sound! But then the sound DID come and yikes!

  7. I saw a Dog Whisperer about a dog who was afraid of hot air balloons...and they lived up the hill from a launch spot. I think it is common because they are actually quite loud if you are in it and dogs have that insane hearing. Poor baby!

    1. I wonder what they did to fix the problem. Hubs took her our for a walk while they were all here because she loves walks and thought it would distract her. Had to carry her home!

  8. Oh poor thing. How scary it must have been to look up and see that giant silent thing.

  9. Oh my goodness- she is adorable!!! So it was the sound? Or the apparition? lol. I love the way she is looking up. Nice photo journalistic effect going on here. Can you even imagine life without her? Say it: NEVER!

  10. I think it was the sight first because we could not even figure out why she was so freaked, we heard nothing until we looked up and there it was, really low and quiet. They did multiple balloons around our home for the last three mornings! I shoved her out to the backyard today once I knew they were gone and she fought me with all her very strong muscles. But tonight she seems normal,, just a tiny bit nervous, but [playing normally with me. whew!
