Romance in the Grocery Store

FreeDigitalPhotos.net
The sweetness still makes me blush. Our fingers touched briefly as I struggled to get the next plastic grocery bag open before he was ready to pass the can of tuna across the self-check scanner. We have a quick system of teamwork at the checkout machine. He scans, I keep the food bags filled and then out of the way.

Yesterday we were moving along as usual when he did the thing, said the thing that has me smiling today as I linger over the memory.

Hubs looked up from the self-checker as it spit out our grocery receipt .....and said...

"You know, your writing just bought us

this week's groceries."

I nearly swooned right there in the Super Walmart! And he thinks he's not romantic! Oh my heart!

Happy sigh.

  1. As Lawrence Welk would say, "Wunnerful, wunnerful. And a one..."

Great validation of your work, Susie. You're a professional writer (you actually make a living out of it. At least one week's worth of living! Kudos to your hubs for not only noticing, but praising you too.

    1. He really has no clue what it meant to me. That makes it even better, I think. Good luck on your new book TJ!

  3. Nice ;) For my bday this year, my husband vacated the shared home office so I could have a workspace all my own. BEST bday ever :)

On the rare times we're at the grocery store together, our system is me telling my husband to back off while I whip the stuff through self checkout. He's a bit to deliberate for me and slows the process down!

    1. An office really validates you doesn't it? Makes it feel more real and solid. My Hubs is a slow food shopper too. I run around bringing things to the basket while he is reading labels. Ha!

  6. That was truly sweet. And how exciting that your writing is actually bringing home the bacon! :) I am so proud of you and happy too...and especially that hubs recognized that as well. You guys are really special. Self scanning your groceries too! So high tech! I'm too lazy for that I guess. But I don't have my hubby at the store with me very often, and it's all I can do to get them out of the basket fast enough for the checker to check them out...and to bag it too...I guess I'm spoiled. AT my grocery store they even take it out to my car for me and refuse to be tipped. I love that.
I enjoyed this post! I'm seeing a new side of you! :)

    1. When I go alone, I let the checker do the work. When I go with Hubs, i let him do the work. Win-win!

  8. You're so sweet to visit my blog and leave such an encouraging comment :) It can only be God.....He gave me the title for today's post when I got up to stretch my legs and stare out the window. The rest just sort of fell into place :) Be blessed, my friend and may you be encouraged by what He speaks to your heart.
